About
Welcome to the History Compass Blog, aiming to offer a lively and informative virtual venue for historians!
This is the companion blog to Blackwell’s online survey journal, History Compass, and our regular blog contributors will be all drawn from the journal’s international team of section editors and editorial board members.
Just as the Compass articles survey recent trends in criticism and research, it is hoped that this blog will become a complementary forum for debate and information sharing across the discipline.
The History Compass Blog might be used to:
- discuss issues raised by the Compass articles, exploring and debating ideas further
- post about recent conferences contributors have attended / will be attending and papers of note
- recommend or review new books or journal articles of interest
- share syllabi and teaching ideas
- highlight other online resources
- ask specific or more general questions of an academic audience, or debate issues which are important to an area of research
- publicise any academic events / conferences / research projects / Calls for Papers
These are just suggestions of course and I’m sure we’ll soon see how things pan out in practice! Contributors are only asked to ensure their postings remain academic in nature.
All section editors and editorial board members of History Compass are entitled to post to this group blog, but we are also keen to invite guest bloggers – so do feel free to drop me an email if you think you’d like to participate.
For example, perhaps you are attending an upcoming conference and would be interested in blogging for the benefit of those who can’t attend. Or perhaps you are a graduate student preparing to teach your first class and would like to share your experiences. We are open to any and all ideas which would provide insight into what is going on right now in both research and teaching.
And finally, I hope you enjoy reading the blog as it develops over the coming time!
Best,
Kivmars Bowling
